US COLLEGES

 

 

There are 4 Athletic Associations that student athletes can participate in during their collegiate careers, based on different entry criteria:

NCAA - National Collegiate Athletic Association 

The NCAA is the highest level of collegiate sport with only the best student athletes.

  • The NCAA has over 1,250 institutions that it regulates to play sport

  • There are 480,000 student athletes competing at the NCAA level

  • NCAA is made up of 3 tiers of divisions.

  • Division 1 and 2 award $2.7 billion in athletic scholarships annually

Entry requirements - (Which we look for)

  • GPA above 2.0 (C) average in the core subjects (English, Maths, Science)

  • Test score above 850 (SAT) or 25 (ACT)

  • Divisions 1 & 2 require student athletes to be certified by the NCAA eligibility centre. Division 3 does not require this.

NAIA - National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

The NAIA governs smaller institutions across America, with a very high standard of sport.

  • The NAIA has over 260 institutions that it regulates to play sport

  • There are 62,000 new student athletes competing at the NAIA level each year

  • The NAIA award $500 million in athletic scholarships annually

Entry requirements - (Which we look for)

  • GPA above 2.0 (C) average in your core subjects (English, Maths, Science)

  • 2 of 3 rule – Students must have 2 of the following: high school diploma or SAT (860) /ACT (18) test, or letter from high schools stating student was in top 50% of academic year group

  • NAIA requires student athletes to be certified by the PLAY NAIA eligibility centre.

NJCAA - National Junior College Athletic Association

The NJCAA governs 2-year degree schools where the main purpose is to provide academic, vocational and professional education. The highest certificate students can gain from NJCAA is an associate’s degree. The NJCAA is spilt into 2 divisions, D1 (offer athletic scholarship) and D3 (do not offer athletic scholarships, however school fees can be as little $8000 per year).

 

Entry Requirements - (Which we look for)

  • High school diploma (GCSE certificates)

  • GPA above 1.8 (C-) in your core subjects (English, Maths, science)

  • NJCAA amateur status certificate signed by current/previous club.

USCAA - United States Colligate Athletic Association

The USCAA provide smaller colleges the opportunity to compete against institutions in similar size and resources for national championships and student recognition. The USCAA is an option for those students who don’t meet the standard student-athlete requirements, however wish to gain a degree whilst participating in sport.

 

Entry Requirements - (Which we look for)

  • Each school will have their own admissions test to gain entry

  • Not participated your chosen sport at a professional level

  • No age restriction.
